Xiaomi is partnering with Flipkart to launch the Redmi 3s in India. The phone is split in two versions: 3s and 3s Prime. Note that this has nothing to do with the Redmi 3 Pro and even the 3s isn't quite the same.

Xiaomi Redmi 3s launching in India next Tuesday, August 9

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime is identical to the international Redmi 3s - it's the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, specifically. It has a fingerprint reader on the back and a Snapdragon 430 chipset. The Silver color option is exclusive to this variant.

The Indian Redmi 3s lacks a fingerprint reader and has 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage. It still has a Snapdragon 430 chipset, though, so it's certainly not a rebranded Redmi 3 (it uses Snapdragon 616).

The other specs are as expected - 8.5mm metal body with a 4,100mAh battery, huge for a phone with a 5" screen (720p IPS). There are also 13MP + 5MP cameras, LTE and a hybrid dual-SIM slot and an IR blaster.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s and 3s Prime will go on sale August 9, exclusively on Mi.com and Flipkart (no registrations required). Prices are INR 7,000 for the 3s and INR 9,000 for the 3s Prime.

Android 7.0 Nougat
Android 7.0 Nougat could be release as soon as next month

If you have been keeping track of Google's work on the next major Android update, then you have surely noticed that the search giant is definitely pushing thing along a lot faster this time around. Instead of waiting for Google I/O 2016, the first developer preview builds of the OS came out on March 9, two moths or so earlier than expected. It was only after a quite popular crows-sourced naming campaign that Android 7.0 received its official Nougat desert title and that was held off quite a bit until July 1.

So it would appear Google is definitely on a new schedule this time around and the main goal seems to be to get the OS into developer's hands as soon as possible all the while perfecting and adding features on the go and dealing with PR. Now that the fifth and final Preview build is out everybody is anxiously anticipating the official release. It only makes sense to keep to momentum going and a new report by Evan Blass (@evleaks) claims Google will do just that and stick to the initially promised time frame and deliver its build by the end of September.
This is definitely great news and also fits nicely with some third-party update schedules that we have been hearing about, as well as a reoccurring rumor that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will come out running Android Nougat on August 2. Naturally, however, Nexus users will be first in line for the new desert update and according to Evan Blass, Google intends to offer official support for every device that came out after the Nexus 5. That is bad news for owners of the three year old handset, but we can't really blame Google for moving on, plus the modding community is sure to hook it up with ROMs in no time.

As already mentioned, Android Nougat is still in active development and historically features from preview builds don't always make it in full and to the very last one in a final release. That being said, besides the Name and the somewhat odd cat-catching Easter egg game, we can't really provide a list of new features with any certainty. However, there are quite a few potential candidates to be excited about.

For instance, Nexus 6P beta testers got to play around with something called Sustained Performance Mode (SPM), which should allow app developers to inform the system of the resources a certain task will take up, as well as its duration and have Android manage to load better and save some battery in the process. Also, there have been signs of a new seamless OS update feature, effectively using a second partition for the process and then simply switching over to it once its done without the long wait. Also better multi-language support is anticipated and so are a few other less-popular changes, like the removal of the Dark Theme and Desktop shortcuts.

Samsung Gear VR
This is (very likely) the new Samsung Gear VR

As Samsung prepares to launch its next-gen phablet extraordinaire, the Note 7, at its special event this upcoming Tuesday, the leaks are continuing to flow. Today, photos of the new Gear VR were leaked from leaker OnLeaks (h/t 9to5Google). The device is reportedly going to be sporting a USB Type-C connection which corroborates reports that the new Note 7 will be shifting to the new connection type.

This headset is reportedly a bit bigger (207mm x 122mm x 98.5mm) if not just to accommodate the sheer size of Samsung’s ballooning devices. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a pretty snug fit in the old Gear VR headset (198mm x 116mm x 90mm) so it’s no surprise that Samsung’s new hallmark phablet might need some new digs to get in on the VR game. The new headset reportedly gets a boost in field-of-view (110-degrees compared to the old model’s 96-degrees) that brings its FoV up to par with higher-end headsets from Oculus and HTC.

The color change from white to black is a very welcome change that goes beyond the aesthetic. The old white plastic Gear VR often fell victim to a slight amount of light leakage when played on sunny days which really just didn’t make any sense. That said, Samsung does lose a bit of its Gear VR brand power as a result of the color change since its a bit difficult to tell the difference between this and every other black mobile VR headset out there, but Samsung may very well continue selling a white version so ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Other than that, there’s not really that much to see here that’s changed. There aren’t really any visual clues to what the other side of the device holds. The old headset sported a touchpad for rudimentary input controls and while this one is highly likely to maintain that setup there has been some talk of an external bluetooth controller being included for compatibility with Google’s Daydream headset reference design which Samsung has already signed on as a partner for.

TechCrunch will be on the floor at Samsung’s Unpacked event next week checking out what Samsung ends up showing off, though it seems there won’t be a ton of surprises given how many freaking leaks there have already been.

Xiaomi VR
Xiaomi could release a VR headset of its own on August 1

If you have ever poked around online for Xiaomi tech, then you surely know that the Chinese OEM always had a "take a jab at everything and see what sticks" attitude to the market. Routers, TVs, smart home gear, even a drone and most-recently the Mi Notebook Air laptop, you name it and Xiaomi likely has it in its portfolio. And when you boast ambitions to play in the big leagues, you really can't afford to lack behind on a tech craze, which VR has been emerging as for a few years now.

Xiaomi could release a VR headset of its own on August 1

New teaser images spotted on the company's official Weibo page now hint that Xiaomi might try its hand at a VR headset. Apparently it has been in the works for some time as well, since industry sources have also suggested a release date of August 1, which is only a short weekend away and this is practically the first time we have heard about the gadget.

As for the images in question, they mostly feature writing in Chinese, that we can't exactly make out in full. However, there are clear mentions of both VR and the August 1 date present as well. Going by the small lifestyle picture of the alleged device, it appears to be quite similar to Samsung's Gear VR in terms of design. This, along with the apparent lack of cables coming out of the unit likely means that Xiaomi has gone with a smartphone-powered approach as well.

Overall, it is slightly odd that we are hearing about this VR headset only now, but Xiaomi is no stranger to surprise announcements. Plus, a dedicated Xiaomi VR account (@XiaomiVR) was found on Weibo as well, which offers some extra proof. Also, this fits nicely with rumors of an ongoing effort on the company's part to launch a rich suite of VR software and experiences, alongside the hardware, probably under the XiaomiVR title as an extra incentive for prospective buyers.

Samsung Pay -Samsung's mobile payment service- is now available on GearS 2 Smart-watch.

Samsung Pay
Samsung's mobile payment service- is now available on GearS 2 Smart-watch.

This mobile payment service has been available for almost a year now but only on some Samsung Smartphones. Last year, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic smart-watch was launched and the company announced that the devices would soon support Samsung Pay. It looks like the company kept to their promise because now, they rolled out an update to the smart-watch and which adds Samsung Pay to the Gear S2. According to a support page on the company's website, the beta version of Samsung Pay is now available to all Gear S2 users.

On Samsung's phones, Pay uses both NFC and MST to ensure you can pay at almost any terminal
terminal. However, the Gear S2 lacks the hardware for MST. That means you'll only be able to use Samsung Pay from your watch with terminals that support NFC.

To use Samsung Pay on their smart-watch, Gear S2 owners have to update to the latest firmware and then download the latest update for the Samsung Gear app. With that installed, you will then need to be set for a secure password on your Gear S2 before adding support cards. The watch app does not automatically share the cards you've added to the phone app, so you have to add them again to the watch. After adding your cards, press and hold the back button to launch the app, select your card, and hold the watch up to the scanner. That's it!

P.S: Samsung Pay Beta on the Gear S2 is only available in the US for now. According to Samsung support, it's also not available on the 3G models (Bluetooth only for now)

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 leak series finally Introduce C-type Usb

Galaxy Note 7 shots surface - USB Type-C port
Galaxy Note 7 shots surface - USB Type-C port
If you are just tuning in to the on-gone Samsung Galaxy Note7 leak series, it appears the time has lastly gone on for us to gone over the bottom side of the device. Despite the plenty  shots and renders already in stock, this part just seemed to mostly break loose us until now. Examining said angle of the phablet is actually pretty important as it holds the key to the type of USB port and the mechanics of the S Pen.

c-type

Rumors regarding a USB Type-C connector are not new, but a visual confirmation is still a necessity. We are not talking about renders either, as we do already have a bunch of those, but they are quite easy to manipulate. A couple of live shots would be ideal and while this is not the case with this new leak, it is probably the next best thing, as it shows an original USB Type-C cable for the Note7.

Galaxy Note 7 shots surface - USB Type-C port
Galaxy Note 7 shots surface - USB Type-C port
Another recent leak also offers a close look at what appears to have the Adaptive Fast charger of the upcoming Note. The unit lists a total of three voltage ratings – 12V at 2.1A, 9V at 1.67A and 5V at 2A. The latter two coincide perfectly with what a current Galaxy S7 fast charger can pump out, but the 12V mode could potentially be new. Some rough calculation makes this out to 25.5W and if the device and its specs check out, we can't help but wonder it Samsung will break its quick charging record with the Note7.

Meanwhile, another leaked still offers a glimpse of all the alleged color options of the device. These should include Coral Blue, Gold, Silver Titanium and Black. Sadly, the photo does not show any other part of the device besides the front glass.

You can mark August 2 on your calendars, as it will officially be the date of the Note's launch.

Nokia-branded Android phones could launch this year

Nokia-branded Android phones could launch this year
Nokia-branded Android phones could launch this year
The Nokia name may get to live on with at least a couple of high-end phones reportedly set to debut in late 2016 or early 2017.

HMD Global, which purchased the Nokia brand from Microsoft this past May, is said to be developing two Android smartphones with a metal design and the "famous Nokia feel," Nokia fan blog NokiaPowerUser said on Saturday, citing "trusted sources."

Both phones would be equipped with the upcoming Nougat flavor of Android, said NPU, which also focuses on Windows Phones. A fingerprint scanner and a highly sensitive camera sensor will also be part of the package, NPU said. Based on Nokia's work with Graphene material, the imaging sensor may be the most sensitive one ever found on a Nokia phone, according to the sources.

Microsoft's 2013 move to acquire Nokia's Windows Phone handset business never panned out in a market dominated by Apple and Android. By dumping Windows Phone and hopping on the Android bandwagon, HMD is looking to convince consumers to give the Nokia brand another shot.

Marketed as "sturdy and robust," the two phones would be resistant to both water and dust, NPU said. The smaller of the two phones would sport a 5.2-inch screen, while the larger will offer a display of 5.5 inches. The resolution hasn't been confirmed, NokiaPowerUser said, but it will likely adopt a QHD (2,560x1,440-pixel 0) display.

The phones may also offer an improved version of Nokia's Z-Launcher interface, which tries to learn how you use your smartphone and adapt itself accordingly.

The two phones and possibly one or two other Nokia Android phones are due for release around the end of 2016, the sources said. But based on testing and development, the time frame may change to the first quarter of 2017.

Less than a day ago Oppo outed its first official teaser for the next smartphone it's going to launch. Back then we only knew the device's name, which is F1s.

Oppo F1s
Oppo F1s becomes official on August 3, dubbed 'selfie expert'
This obviously made us think that it's going to be a slightly enhanced version of the F1 that's been available since January.

Now Oppo has put out another teaser image for the F1s (still not showing us the handset itself from any angle yet), and as you can see this
contains an important bit of new information.

It turns out that the Oppo F1s will be announced on August 3. Furthermore, it is being called a "selfie expert" by the Chinese company, so perhaps we should expect a better front-facing camera than we saw in the F1. Yet for now it's unclear exactly how it will be better, though.

Thanks for the tip, Kolman!

Nokia P1 Android smartphone, will it be tough like Nokia 3310?

Nokia p1
Nokia P1 Android smartphone

The yesteryear's smartphone king, Nokia was in News recently for its upcoming Android smartphone, Nokia P1. We all know Nokia for its tough and rugged mobiles like 3310 and Express Music and try out by the simple interest shown in Nokia P1, people are awaiting the Finnish smartphone maker's Android foray eagerly.

Once, the widest mobile phone seller by a distance, Nokia go on to the edge after the emergence of Android smartphones and iPhone. Nokia's inability to adapt to Android and the lack of success for its S60 operating system meant that it was a ripe takeover candidate. And that it what happened in 2014 when Microsoft bought Nokia's mobile business for a whopping $7.6 billion.

What happened after that is a true sob story. Like a true corporate raider, Microsoft stripped Nokia smartphones of its iconic label and renamed them Lumia smartphones. It further stripped Nokia's patents and used them for its own gains. When nothing was left to salvage, Microsoft took a $7.6 billion write down on its balance sheets last year and forgot about Nokia.

But apparently, those who remember Nokia's tough and rugged smartphones and the erstwhile Nokia fan boys club did not. As soon as the Nokia P1 press renders hit the News, there was a dizzy search for images and news about Nokia's upcoming Android smartphone. Our readers also joined the fray and shot in hundreds of emails to us asking details about Nokia P1. Here is our attempt to tell you all that we know about Nokia Android smartphone.

All about Nokia's Android smartphone

Nokia is bouncing to smartphone creation in cooperation with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Foxconn. The Nokia-Foxconn deal was announced in May 2016 through which Foxconn will manufacture Nokia's Android smartphones. Foxconn also purchased Sharp a few months ago, which may give an explanation as to why the image could be the same as the Sharp Aquos 1. It looks like Sharp Aquos P1 will be rebranded as the Nokia P1 for launch in Europe in October but there is no verifiable news about this.

Nokia P1 Specifications

Nokia P1 Android smartphone will have the same set of specs as Sharp Aquos 1. According to reports, Nokia P1 will have a 5.3-inch FHD resolution IGZO panel for display. It will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 820 processor running on 3GB RAM and will have 32GB of expandable storage. The Nokia's first foray into Android smartphones will carry its signature big camera and feature a 22.6MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture. The whole setup will be powered by a solid 3,000mAh battery. Nokia P1 will have IP58 dust-proof body of water repellent and fast-charge support.

The Nokia P1 Android smartphone make a mouthwatering spec list for Android smartphone buyers. Given Nokia's history we can expect a rugged and tough smartphone which can withstand the everyday fall, grime, dust and the coffee spills our current Android smartphones aren't capable of enduring. The only smartphone that comes close to withstanding our day to day assault is the Moto X Android smartphone, but that smartphone hasn't clicked the way it should have.

It is however requested to take the above news with a pinch of salt because this is not the first time when the Nokia Android smartphone has been leaked. Earlier, there was news of Nokia C1 coming in both variants Android and Windows which ultimately proved to be false. Even the ever reliable GSMArena brought out a specifications list for Nokia C1 only to disappoint. If you are planning to buy a new Android smartphone in the upcoming holiday season, it will do you a world of good to wait till Nokia P1 Android smartphone is launched. Be assured, once Nokia P1 comes to the market, it won't disappoint you.

Xiaomi's next grand unveiling is taking place on July 27. The company has informed the media about this conference that will be held at China National Convention Center in Beijing.

You can see the invite in the image to the left, but it doesn't hold any clues as to what exactly will be introduced on that occasion.

Thankfully however, Xiaomi's director of new media has revealed via his Weibo account that not one but two products will be made official on July 27. He didn't name either one, of course, but did give us some clues as to what they are. See, he 'redacted' their names, thus revealing how many characters each has.

And it looks like the recently leaked Redmi Note 4 with its dual-camera setup on the rear and Helio X20 SoC will be present at the conference. And so might the much-rumored Xiaomi laptop, which could end up being called Mi Notebook. This will come with an Intel Atom processor and at first will be offered in two sizes - 12.5" and 13.3". It will have a light aluminum body, and should somewhat resemble Apple's MacBook line in terms of looks. At some later point we are apparently going to see a 15.6-inch version of the laptop too.

Nokia in late May had issued a press release announcing that not only would it be returning to the smartphone arena, but also its new line of devices would have Android running on it. The Finland-based company will license its brand to its Asian partners, which will then create Nokia handsets. Since the announcement, rumors about the new Nokia smartphone have been doing the rounds.

In early July, leaked images of a device bearing Nokia branding, deemed to be the Nokia P1, appeared online creating a lot of buzz. However, these images turned out to be that of Sharp Aquos P1, which is designed by engineers at InFocus and Sharp, a Foxconn subsidiary.

In its bid to return to smartphone production, Nokia has leased its name to Foxconn, which was announced earlier this year. Foxconn also purchased Sharp a few months ago, which may give an explanation as to why the image could be the same as the Sharp Aquos 1. Many have suggested that the Sharp Aquos P1 will be rebranded as the Nokia P1 for launch in Europe later this year, but there is no solid evidence to back this up.

Nothing is official about this Nokia P1 handset, and Phone Arena speculates that the smartphone could be the same as the Sharp Aquos P1 handset, which saw a limited distribution.

Nokia P1 reportedly could share the same set of specs with that of Sharp Aquos 1 such as a 5.3-inch FHD resolution IGZO panel, Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 22.6MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture, a 3,000mAh battery, IP58 dust-proof body of water repellent and fast-charge support.

It’s not the first time that a leaked image of Android-powered Nokia handset has appeared online. Previously an alleged image of Nokia C1 had appeared. The model was being speculated to be launched in both variants — Android and Windows — but so far that news has just been a rumor.

So, for all those Nokia lovers who have been waiting for the company to announce an Android-powered smartphone can now finally get their hands on an Android device.

If you are planning to buy a new phone, you should wait out till Nokia P1 hits the market. Rest assured you will get a quality smartphone from the Finnish smartphone maker.

Lenovo Launch Its first Windows 10 phone - the SoftBank 503VL

SoftBank 503VL

SoftBank 503VL

Yes, you heard it correctly, Lenovo is trying its hand at a Windows 10 smartphone. But, before you get too excited, it really seems like a one-time deal and chances are it won't be available at your local electronics store. The name mostly gives that away.

Really, what is happening here is that the Japanese carrier SoftBank has tasked Lenovo with creating a phone to add to their existing lineup of handsets. And it just so happens that the phone they requested had to be one running Microsoft's mobile OS. That being said, since the 503VL is a carrier device, it is exclusive to Japan at the moment.

In terms of specs, the SoftBank 503VL comes with a 5-inch 720p display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Its camera setup includes a rather modest 8MP main shooter and a 5MP selfie one. And everything is powered by a 2,250 mAh battery.
