Xiaomi gathered a big crowd of onlookers when it unveiled the Redmi Pro and those gathered won't have to wait much longer. Initially the launch in China was scheduled for the 8th (next Monday), but it seems that it has been pulled up.

Promo images have surfaced with an earlier date - August 6, Saturday. Sales will start 10am local time. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro will be available only in eight cities first: Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Jinan, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Zhengzhou. That is if you want to shop in person, presumably online shopping will be more flexible.

More cities will be added later on. More countries too, perhaps, but we have no info on that.

The first 50 to buy a Pro will get prizes. The exact nature of the prizes isn't 100% clear, but it seems that a Xiaomi Mi Band 2 may be up for grabs.

Xiaomi is partnering with Flipkart to launch the Redmi 3s in India. The phone is split in two versions: 3s and 3s Prime. Note that this has nothing to do with the Redmi 3 Pro and even the 3s isn't quite the same.

Xiaomi Redmi 3s launching in India next Tuesday, August 9

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime is identical to the international Redmi 3s - it's the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, specifically. It has a fingerprint reader on the back and a Snapdragon 430 chipset. The Silver color option is exclusive to this variant.

The Indian Redmi 3s lacks a fingerprint reader and has 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage. It still has a Snapdragon 430 chipset, though, so it's certainly not a rebranded Redmi 3 (it uses Snapdragon 616).

The other specs are as expected - 8.5mm metal body with a 4,100mAh battery, huge for a phone with a 5" screen (720p IPS). There are also 13MP + 5MP cameras, LTE and a hybrid dual-SIM slot and an IR blaster.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s and 3s Prime will go on sale August 9, exclusively on Mi.com and Flipkart (no registrations required). Prices are INR 7,000 for the 3s and INR 9,000 for the 3s Prime.

Windows 10 Mobile was the platform where the Pokémon Go was not yet available, but now you can install and play Pokemon Go on Windows 10 Mobile. But all thanks to an Open Source client, which made it possible for all the Windows Phone users to play Pokemon Go on Windows 10 Mobile.

See how you can finally have the Pokémon Go on your Windows 10 Mobile.

The PoGo-UWP, as it is not the official application of Niantic but already gives the possibility for users of Windows 10 Mobile to have the Pokémon Go on their smartphones. This is an open source client which is accessible to all.

The PoGo-UWP is not yet officially completed and published in the Windows application store, so, for now it requires users to install manually. If you still want to help to test the app and contribute to development, then you will need to follow few advanced steps, but don’t get worried about the advance steps, as the steps are not as advance that you might be thinking.

So let’s get started:-

  • Login via the official Android or iOS client or simply you can also use the Bluestacks app player directly on your PC.
  • Then select a starting Pokemon and log out from the official app by tapping on the Pokeball icon.
  • If you are on Bluestacks without a GPS signal then just close the app by pressing the ‘X’ icon.
  • Now you have to download all these Github files to a PC connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Windows 10 Mobile and have to place them in the same folder. (Here is the files 1st – 2nd – 3rd)
  • Now enable developer features and to do this just go to Settings and search “For developers”.
  • Then simply enable the “Developer mode, Device discovery, and Device Portal”.
  • Now on the bottom of the “Device Portal” settings, you will see an IP address, just navigate to that IP address on the PC containing the Github files.
  • Then just click on the Apps section on the Device Portal in your PC browser and add the file “PokemonGo-UWP_1.0.3.0_ARM_Debug.appx” under Install App.
  • Then Add package and add other two files as dependencies.
  • Now just click on the Go button under the Deploy.
  • Here you are done, so now just launch the PoGo-UWP on your Windows phone and login with the account which you set up earlier.

Here is the video tutorial to setup Pokemon Go on your Windows 10 Mobile:-

Nokia P1 Android smartphone, will it be tough like Nokia 3310?

Nokia p1
Nokia P1 Android smartphone

The yesteryear's smartphone king, Nokia was in News recently for its upcoming Android smartphone, Nokia P1. We all know Nokia for its tough and rugged mobiles like 3310 and Express Music and try out by the simple interest shown in Nokia P1, people are awaiting the Finnish smartphone maker's Android foray eagerly.

Once, the widest mobile phone seller by a distance, Nokia go on to the edge after the emergence of Android smartphones and iPhone. Nokia's inability to adapt to Android and the lack of success for its S60 operating system meant that it was a ripe takeover candidate. And that it what happened in 2014 when Microsoft bought Nokia's mobile business for a whopping $7.6 billion.

What happened after that is a true sob story. Like a true corporate raider, Microsoft stripped Nokia smartphones of its iconic label and renamed them Lumia smartphones. It further stripped Nokia's patents and used them for its own gains. When nothing was left to salvage, Microsoft took a $7.6 billion write down on its balance sheets last year and forgot about Nokia.

But apparently, those who remember Nokia's tough and rugged smartphones and the erstwhile Nokia fan boys club did not. As soon as the Nokia P1 press renders hit the News, there was a dizzy search for images and news about Nokia's upcoming Android smartphone. Our readers also joined the fray and shot in hundreds of emails to us asking details about Nokia P1. Here is our attempt to tell you all that we know about Nokia Android smartphone.

All about Nokia's Android smartphone

Nokia is bouncing to smartphone creation in cooperation with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Foxconn. The Nokia-Foxconn deal was announced in May 2016 through which Foxconn will manufacture Nokia's Android smartphones. Foxconn also purchased Sharp a few months ago, which may give an explanation as to why the image could be the same as the Sharp Aquos 1. It looks like Sharp Aquos P1 will be rebranded as the Nokia P1 for launch in Europe in October but there is no verifiable news about this.

Nokia P1 Specifications

Nokia P1 Android smartphone will have the same set of specs as Sharp Aquos 1. According to reports, Nokia P1 will have a 5.3-inch FHD resolution IGZO panel for display. It will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 820 processor running on 3GB RAM and will have 32GB of expandable storage. The Nokia's first foray into Android smartphones will carry its signature big camera and feature a 22.6MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture. The whole setup will be powered by a solid 3,000mAh battery. Nokia P1 will have IP58 dust-proof body of water repellent and fast-charge support.

The Nokia P1 Android smartphone make a mouthwatering spec list for Android smartphone buyers. Given Nokia's history we can expect a rugged and tough smartphone which can withstand the everyday fall, grime, dust and the coffee spills our current Android smartphones aren't capable of enduring. The only smartphone that comes close to withstanding our day to day assault is the Moto X Android smartphone, but that smartphone hasn't clicked the way it should have.

It is however requested to take the above news with a pinch of salt because this is not the first time when the Nokia Android smartphone has been leaked. Earlier, there was news of Nokia C1 coming in both variants Android and Windows which ultimately proved to be false. Even the ever reliable GSMArena brought out a specifications list for Nokia C1 only to disappoint. If you are planning to buy a new Android smartphone in the upcoming holiday season, it will do you a world of good to wait till Nokia P1 Android smartphone is launched. Be assured, once Nokia P1 comes to the market, it won't disappoint you.

Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus will reportedly have two rear cameras and 3GB RAM

If you thought iPhone 6s Plus was powerful, you obviously have not been paying attention to the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus, and thanks to a KGI securities analyst, the upcoming phablet from Apple is going to feature hardware that will dwarf its predecessors by miles. This is because the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus is rumored to feature 3GB of RAM. Though more amount of RAM will obviously equal more battery consumption, we have a feeling that Apple will reduce this drawback through a large battery capacity.

However, 3GB RAM is not the only impressive hardware spec that is going to be present inside the upcoming beast of an iPhone. iPhone 7 Plus has also been rumored to feature a dual-camera processing sensor, and if the rumor holds true, this iPhone is going to be the very first phone belonging to Apple to feature such a configuration.

While we do not know the true capabilities of this sensor, it will probably have to do with creating a final image that is going to be far more separated from the background compared to the other camera sensors. Android smartphones have featured dual-camera sensors before to create 3D images, so it is possible that an iPhone 7 Plus will provide such an addition too.

Details of what else the camera will be capable of delivering are pretty bleak, but knowing Apple, they always end up cramming something different inside the next iPhone every year so we can also hope that the default camera app is going to get better software to allow more control to the user who wants to capture images and footage frequently.

More information will obviously be revealed when the iPhone 7 Plus is unveiled during the month of September so all updates regarding the complete hardware specifications are going to be detailed at that time.

Update hitting unlocked HTC 10 units in US

HTC has started rolling out an update to its newly-launched 10 smartphone in the US.

As per the change-log, the update brings enhancements related to camera performance and WiFi stability, as well as improvements related to system stability.

The update (which is currently only hitting unlocked units of the device) might appear to be similar to the one that was rolled out early last week in Europe, but is certainly more heavier than the latter - it weighs in at around 395MB, compared to the 85MB European update.

It bumps up the software version to 1.53.617.5, and also brings along the security patches for the month of May.

Excessive smartphone use can make children cross-eyed: Study

Heavy smartphone usage could make your kids squint says a new research

According to a new study by doctors at Chonnam National University Hospital in Seoul, excessive use of smartphone by children below five year may cause them to suffer from eye deviation.

Apparently, too much smartphone usage could cause convergent strabismus. Strabismus, commonly known as cross-eyed or wall-eyed, is a vision condition in which someone cannot align both eyes concurrently under normal conditions.

One or both of the eyes may turn in, out, up or down. The study also found that the children held smartphones too close to their face. During the study, it was noted that the children were holding smartphones eight to twelve inches from their face.

The researchers said that the condition is becoming more prevalent in children when it had previously been quite rare. The South Korean study was based on 12 children aged between 7 and 16 who used smartphones for between 4 and 8 hours a day.

The doctors found that they were able to successfully treat this effect in nine of the children by forbidding them from using smartphones for nearly two months. This, they say, proves the link between excessive smartphone usage and the condition.

According to the researchers, users should not look at a smartphone screen for over 30 minutes at a time. “Children showing signs of deviated eyes should consult a doctor immediately,” they added.

Recently, Samsung released an app that will warn kids if their faces are too close to the smartphones and tablets and help avoid eye strain when these devices. Reducing the risk of convergent strabismus seems like another worthy reason to install it.

LG has released a whole bunch of 360-degree spherical wallpapers for you to enjoy on your brand new G5 smartphones. "Spherical wallpapers?" you exclaim in confusion, with a firm belief in your head that walls do generally tend to be flat.

360-degree spherical wallpapers now available for your LG G5Well, these are meant for your phone and your phone can be oriented in any arbitrary direction plus it has a gyroscope. Depending on its orientation you'd be served the respective portion of the spherical image and it will keep panning around as you move.

At this point there are 12 such wallpapers available, shot at exotic locations throughout the world by pro photographers. 4 new ones will be added each month until November. You can download them for free from the LG SmartWorld app.

We can see how it may be distracting in day to day use, more so than the parallax effect some makers apply. It's still pretty cool, though, and gives you an idea for another use of that 360CAM you got with the G5.

Xiaomi Max front panel leaked - truly massive

Barely hours ago we told you about a future Xiaomi Android latest phablet, which after an online poll the company decided to name Xiaomi Max. Meanwhile a couple of photos have surfaced, and they seem to be coming straight from the production line.

The shots depict the device's front panel and it's nothing short of colossal. If we're still going to call it a Smartphone, that is - as tablets go it's tiny.

Alleged Xia0mi Max Android Smartphone front panel

Compact side bezels, capacitive keys on the chin, earpiece and sensor array - the panel looks very much in line with Xiaomi's design language. Unlike the current flagship Mi 5, though, there's no hardware home button with a fingerprint reader. Fret not though, as the sources say that such a sensor will be found on the back like with the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi 4s.

As far as specs go, it's only the Snapdragon 820 that seems to be settled on. Even the resolution of that huge display hasn't been revealed.

Apple orders 100 million Samsung OLED panels for the 2017 iPhone

According to the latest rumors, Apple has made an order to Samsung for 100 million 5.5" OLED panels in 2017. The displays are supposedly going to make their way to the 2017 iPhone Plus. The timing for the order indicates that the OLED screens will skip the iPhone 7 and only make it to the iPhone 7S.

The information comes from a source cited by the Chinese edition of the WSJ and it also points out that Samsung has set aside a production line at its Asan plant for the order. While the information about future iPhone models using a Samsung-made OLED panel is not new, it was previously anticipated to happen in 2018, not a year earlier.
Apple orders 100 million Samsung OLED panels for the 2017 iPhone

KGI's analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a mixed track record regarding Apple rumors, also shares similar information. However, he is quite certain that the 2017 iPhone Plus will have a 5.8" display.

The reason for Apple's decision to go OLED could be because currently, its production cost is lower than LCD's. It'll be also interesting to see if rumors surface regarding Apple issuing a request to LG to manufacture OLED panels as a fallback. Up until now, the Korean company has been a key Apple partner in making panels for the iPhone.

Apple’s iTunes Allowances will be shut down next month

Apple is discontinuing support for iTunes Allowances, the feature that allowed parents to send monthly credits to a recipient’s – meaning, their child’s – Apple ID for use in the iTunes Store.

That allowance could then be spent on music, videos, apps or books, as the child desired. Now, according to an update to the iTunes Allowances support page on Apple’s website, the feature is being shut down, and existing allowances will cancel on May 25, 2016.

That means the installment payments will no longer be delivered after that date, but the unused credit will not actually disappear. Apple says that credit will remain in the recipient’s account until it’s used.

Allowances were useful for parents who wanted a way to control spending and set limits on what their kids could buy from the iTunes Store every month. And they offered a nice alternative to having to constantly deal with nagging kids, begging for new apps and games.

With the feature’s shutdown, Apple is directing customers to use “Family Sharing” instead. Introduced in 2014, Family Sharing lets up to six people share media purchases, including iTunes music, movies, TV shows, books and apps, without having to share accounts. The idea is that purchases could be paid for using one credit card, while parents could also approve kids’ spending requests from their own devices.

In addition to sharing media, the feature can also be used to share photos, a family calendar and more between devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. It requires iOS 8 or later; OS X Yosemite or later; and iTunes 12. PC users can also take advantage of the feature via iCloud for Windows.

One of the more useful aspects to Family Sharing versus iTunes Allowances is that it permits kids under 13 to have their own Apple IDs, as they’re managed as part of the family group. Organizers can also limit access to content on their kids’ devices using iOS’s “Restrictions” or OS X and iTunes’ parental controls.

However, the feature still needs improvement in other areas. Namely, it doesn’t support in-app purchases, which is a common request from kids. (iTunes Allowances did.). Some parents also find it frustrating to have to manually approve every iTunes purchase request, too. But that’s because they may not realize the “Ask to Buy” option can be disabled for kids and other members.

MacRumors first spotted the feature’s shut down, noting that Apple customers were being informed of the closure via email. While Apple didn’t give an official reason for ending iTunes Allowances, it makes sense. There’s no need for both options, given how much overlap there is between the two services.

Latest USB-C specifications will protect you from malware and low-quality chargers

New USB-C standard will prevent cables from frying your device and carrying malware

Remember the time when an engineer managed to fry his expensive Chromebook by plugging in a USB-C cable? Well turns out that the right people have received this news, which has given rise to a new kind of USB-C specification that will not only protect you from malware, but will also deliver upon quality chargers that do not end up frying your smartphone or expensive notebook.

The tech firms who have decided to bring a new USB-C certification are HP, Intel, and Microsoft and this authentication specification was introduced on Tuesday. This new specification will allow devices to confirm the integrity of a USB-C charger, cable, or device before allowing data or significant power to run through it. You should be aware that apart from transferring up to 100Gbps, USB-C cables are also capable of delivering up to a 100 watts of power, which can spell disaster for modern day mobile devices and notebooks.
Latest USB-C specifications protects you from malware and low-quality chargers

In addition to safeguarding the users’ expensive gadgets, the new specification will also know about a charger or cable’s credentials, including its descriptor, capabilities, and certification status. This entire process will use 128-bit cryptographic signatures for authentication purposes, thus protecting against malicious hardware or software attempting to deliver an exploit via USB.

While it is a great sign that companies have finally started to become aware about this, it has not been stated regarding the entry of these new USB-C cables in the market and neither has it been stated whether or not these cables are going to be pricey or not. Since USB-C is yet to become a standard for notebooks, tablets and smartphones, only a few companies will be using it right now. However, it is safe to say that the pros far outweigh the cons and it is only a matter of time before the new standard is being used everywhere, which is similar to how USB started being accepted around the world when it first came out.

New Type C Standard Usb

The folks behind the USB Type-C standard have a new approach to keep sketchy cables from zapping your laptop or evildoers from hacking your phone.

USB Type-C brings new perks to the mundane chore of connecting devices to each other and to chargers, but problems have cast a shadow -- notably when Google employee Benson Leung's effort to flag faulty cables fried his laptop and testing gear earlier this year.

That's why industry powers behind the tech announced on Tuesday a USB authentication technology that will guard against that type of problem and will keep criminals from using hacked USB devices to launch attacks. The technology functions behind the scenes on your devices so you won't have to think about it, at least until your phone refuses to work with an uncertified airport charger or freebie cable.

USB is a remarkable success, starting two decades ago as a way to connect printers and keyboards to PCs, picking up duties charging phones and syncing their data, and now in everything from cars to TVs. USB-C expands further by letting you use USB to power your PC and to send videos to TVs and external monitors. The fact that it's reversible -- there's no up or down to the connector -- is icing on the cake.

The USB Implementers Forum is "unwavering in our mission to solidify USB Type-C as the single cable of the future," Jeff Ravencraft, president of the standards group, said in a statement.

But the new future is messy. For example, it's not always clear what capabilities a USB port will include. Some will feature video support. Others will offer USB 3.1's new super-high data transfer speeds of 10 gigabits per second. Separately, faulty cables led Amazon to take the unusual step last month of threatening to banish sellers offering bad USB-C cables.

Maturing technology should ease the growing pains. Cable powerhouse Monoprice announced a new Palette line of colorful USB-C cables on Tuesday. They're limited to slower 480 megabit-per-second USB 2.0 speeds for now. Later this month, Monoprice will release cables that support USB 3.0's tenfold increase to 5Gbps, and in coming months, USB 3.1's 10Gbps.

Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact are getting official Marshmallow

Sony is delivering on its promise dating back to October last year to bring Android Marshmallow to the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. After a Beta build was released a month ago, users of the smartphones are starting to receive the official update.

The firmware, carrying a build number 23.5.A.0.570, brings the OS version to the latest 6.0.1, and includes the February Android security patch as well as the latest camera app interface.
Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact are getting official Marshmallow
Now, there are the usual caveats, though. For one, only three models are getting the update for now, specifically the D6503 Z2, the D6603 Z3 and the D5803 Z3 Compact. Additionally, it's not yet happening in all parts of the world - so far it's the US, Russia, Ukraine, Middle East and North Africa, and perhaps Latin America.

So if you're holding on to your trusty Xperias of the above generations and live somewhere in these regions, you may be in luck. If not, muster some patience, it could be just a few days.

OneDrive's iOS

Microsoft has updated OneDrive's iOS app, bumping it to version 6.13.1. The update brings new features such as the ability to download multiple photos and videos in a single attempt, as well as some regular bug fixes.

"Save 1, save 2, save 10! You can now save as many photos and videos as you’d like back to your camera roll. Simply select the files, tap the Share command and there you will find the mythical Save Photos and Videos option," the change-log reads.
As for bug fixes, they are related to issues with VoiceOver and albums. Finally, those having sync issues will have to just shake to send feedback, and a Microsoft engineer will investigate the issue for you.

Introduction

Someone at LG must have thought: “Leather is so last-year, let’s do something nobody has done – or long quit trying.” And here we have the LG G5. It has the looks of a brand new flagship, the heart of a dragon and an adventurous dual camera setup suited for every occasion. But there’s more than meets the eye, the Magic Slot. The LG G5 is a modular smartphone, which lets you plug a handful of external add-ons: a semi-pro camera grip with shutter buttons and a bigger battery, or an external sound amplifier by B&O.

LG G5 review

LG G5 review

How long since you last saw the inside of your phone? It seems like while everyone was busy experimenting with designs and mixing up various alloys, there was something unusual cooking in the LG labs.

Brand new or just well forgotten old, innovating for its own sake or trying to defy the impossible, the modular design won't let you upgrade the processor or the camera, but it certainly offers plenty of options. The add-ons will mostly be sold separately but initial prices don't seem too bad. You might even get a bonus camera grip - LG will throw one in the bundle in select markets. Who knows, we might see the return of the xenon flash or some smart docking solutions along the lines of Microsoft's Continuum.

What you do get right out of the box is the base equipment and in the case of the G5, it's anything but modest. Perhaps the star of the show is the camera combo. The 16MP camera borrowed from the LG V10 does top-notch stills, and the secondary 8MP sensor offers unmatched super wide shots while adding a hybrid zoom of sorts to the package.

Let's check out all the LG G5's features.

  • 32GB built-in storage plus microSD card slot
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Cat. 9 LTE (450Mbps); Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac; Bluetooth 4.2; GPS/GLONASS; NFC; USB Type-C port; FM radio; IR blaster

  • No water proofing
  • No wireless charging
  • No 1080p video recording at 60fps

Latin America gets the LG G5 with a Snapdragon 652 and not the top-of-the-line S820 chipset

Now, the first thing that got scrapped right at the drawing board must've been water proofing. If it ever was on the cards to begin with - after all, LG isn't known for water-tight flagships, is it? Anyway, the Magic Slot pushed it off the agenda altogether.

As for the Magic Slot itself, what good it is to you depends on how much you're willing to spend on add-ons. Even if it's only for the access to the battery, it's good enough by our books. Yet, we can see how some users may be alienated by the idea of detachable bits exposing the innards. Habit is a big thing and the industry has gone a long way now in exactly the opposite direction.

The metal chassis, on the other hand, stands in the way of wireless charging - but probably hasn't ruled it out entirely. It may as well be another use of the Magic Slot down the road.

The LG G5 has lost its signature rear volume keys, which is easily explained by the already busy rear panel. Thankfully, the fingerprint scanner/power key is still around, right below the camera module.

We'll make sure to re-do all tests once we get our hands on a retail-ready device and we'll update all relevant sections. For now, we hope you'll enjoy this in-depth look at what LG has achieved with the G5 so far.
